At Simonside Primary School we follow the South Tyneside Agreed Syllabus for Religious education. The Agreed Syllabus that we follow can be found here:
Our R.E. curriculum is largely Christian in nature with different elements of Christianity studied in each year group. Throughout your child’s time at Simonside they will also study a number of other core religious including; Judaism, Sikhism and Hindu religion.
There are three key elements in R.E. – Knowledge and understanding of religion, critical thinking and personal reflection. All children are encouraged to empathise and show respect for personal beliefs of others within the school and wider community.
In addition to Religious Education lessons within the classroom, children at Simonside participate in various events, which celebrate key dates within the Christian calendar. We foster strong community links with our local church, John the Baptist, and hold Harvest and Easter Services at Simonside, led by Reverend Gilly. Our annual Christmas Carol Service is held at the church itself and is well attended by our friends and families.
