Learning another language gives children the valuable opportunity to develop positive attitudes to and respect for languages and cultures other than their own. We aim to foster pupils’ curiosity and deepen their understanding of both the world around them and their own language.
Our children will be able to acquire and develop language skills such as reading, writing and speaking and listening, using what they have learned in a range of contexts with increasing competence and confidence. We will teach children about France as a country and celebrate events such as The Tour De France.
Although it is only compulsory to teach languages to children from Key Stage 2 (Year 3) upwards, we seek opportunities to allow our younger children to develop their awareness of other languages and countries through a range of events, including International Day of Languages.
